[Oil & Gas Updates]: Appointment of the Petroleum Administration’s members awaits “political consensus”

According to Assafir’s 06/10 edition, sources close to PM Najib Mikati denied having received the names of candidates to the Petroleum Administration which will oversee the licensing process expected to be launched by the end of 2012.

Asked about the delays in submitting the list of candidates, Energy minister Gebran Bassil said he is keen on ensuring consensus over the issue to avoid objections or obstacles during cabinet meeting.

ورداً على سؤال حول عدم إحالة الأسماء الى مجلس الوزراء قال باسيل: أسهل أمر عليَّ أن أطرح هذه الأمور على مجلس الوزراء، لكني حريص على أن يكون هناك توافق كامل في شأنها، بحسب الآلية وبحسب المعايير.أنا أريد أن أقدم صورة متكاملة الى مجلس الوزراء لكي تحظى بالتوافق من دون أية اعتراضات أو عراقيل. [/box]

In a TV interview on 09/10, Minister of State for Administrative Reform Mohammad Fneish announced that 90% of public sector appointments, including the board members of the Petroleum Administration, have been completed and await political consensus before being finalized, noting however that consensus will not come at the expense of competence.
