Syria: Flamenco in the City of Jasmine

Amid the ruins of war, three Syrian dancers, Wathec, Salma and Nour Salman, sift their memories for remnants of beauty expressed in art. They pass through the winding alleyways of Damascus to seek their cast away inspiration. They reclaim their lost world in a war-damaged Damascene home. Their memories flood back. The mosaics on the wall and beneath their feet awaken the rhythm in their blood.

Jasmenco is a reminder that, despite war, destruction and hatred, there is always a place for beauty and art.

Middle East Strategic Perspectives is sharing this short film, directed by Wathec and Nagham Salman, to show the other face of Syria, a face easily eclipsed by the reigning violence.
